an exploration of non-human methods of communication, including depictions of: pheromones, atmospheric pressure imbalances, physical predation deterrents, camouflage, adaptations to ecological niches, life cycles, ephemerality, seasonal changes, the passing of time through different conditions, invasive species, endangerment, natural landscape modification, and disease

every page is an artistic representation of a way that nature intentionally communicates or a piece of evidence which indicates a change.

“summer breaking” ● 2026 ● 6″ x 6″

cyanotype

can be understood as the viewer looking up through their hands at the summer sky or in the way that it was created, as the viewer looking down at their hands pressed to the ground, feeling the sun on their back. a reminder to take a minute (or the 12 this piece took to develop) and experience the physicality of being outside and the sensations that are only noticeable when in the same position for a prolonged period.

even the weak bite back eventually. a victim of violence can only take so much before they resort to it themselves, even half-formed and unready. aggressors are often more surprised than they should be.

a once-familiar landscape exists in the mind long after it is physically gone. it’s memory becomes more abstracted over time, but the comforting feeling of something known remains.
